It tells somewhat true and at the same time fictional story about Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and his rivalry with Antonio Salieri. This is a great movie which I have seen couple of times, and latest one on 4K UHD disk that I bought. Performances by both leads F. Murray Abraham and Tom Hulce were spectacular. Directing by Miloš Forman is among his few best. This is a very entertaining film that on paper sounds like a boring one, but actually grabs a viewer by surprise with excellent screenplay, great pacing, and of course spectacular music. Costumes were amazing as well. Overall, ""Amadeus" is one of those classic that needs to be watched and rewatched to truly appreciate it. This is a great film on every level. No wonder it won so many Oscars back in the day and was a big commercial success. Amadeus is an American period drama film directed by Miloš Forman. Peter Shaffer adapted it from his 1979 stage play, inspired by Alexander Pushkin's 1830 play Mozart (Tom Hulce) and Salieri (F Murray Abraham). If you've ever wanted to witness a live-action altercation between SpongeBob and Squidward, this is it. This really is one of my favorite movies, and while the story is about Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, F. Murray Abraham IS the movie. Watching everything unfold from Salieri's point of view is an absolute roller coaster. Have you ever been so jealous of someone that they consumed your every waking thought? If so, you're probably going to enjoy this. It is rather long, just FYI. (I don't care—I loved every minute of it.) Any Disney fans out there? See more Eileen S @EyeLean May 28 One of those Hollywood classics that rewards repeated viewings! You should know this film is not a proper biopic but something else entirely. With its wonderful cast, period costumes, beautiful cinematography, and gorgeous score, Amadeus uses some of the circumstances of Mozart's career as a jumping off point for an exploration of artistic jealousy, spiritual crisis, and unbearable guilt. It's an almost gothic tale told from the perspective of an aged and institutionalized Antonio Salieri (a real-life contemporary and colleague of Mozart's), who explains to his confessor why he claims to have killed Mozart. Music history buffs will rush tell you that although the claim may have really happened, the other events of the film did not, or at least not as portrayed, but that doesn't matter! That's not the point. Go ahead and immerse yourself in 18th century Europe and Mozart's incomparable music! You'll be glad you did. See more Jay D @JayJustLovesMovies May 23 I just watched the 4k release of Amadeus, a movie I've loved since its release. That said it's probably been fifteen to twenty years since I last watched it. Happy to say it's timeless. The 4k version is beautifully done, it was an absolute treat to watch again. Now that I own it, I'm sure I'll pull it out every couple years. Pure entertainment. Acting, story, costumes and scenery...it's all spot on. Highly recommended if you've never seen, or due for a re-watch.
