R T @RT09397758 Jun 17 I loved this adaption of Patricia Highsmith's Ripley's Game. I found Dennis Hopper as the unhinged Ripley refreshing. There is something about the blue, blue eyes of Dennis Hopper and Alain Delon that looks deceptively like innocence, of course it is not. Great performances from this whole cast. In Hamburg, he meets Tom Ripley, an American art trafficker, who introduces him to a man offering money to kill a stranger. The plot feels almost banal; the story itself is not the main focus. Wim Wenders shines through atmosphere, especially his use of color, reminiscent of Mario Bava and Dario Argento, with dominant orange tones suggesting falseness. The film explores illness, paranoia, and truth through parallel stories in Europe and New York, the latter almost dreamlike. Blending spy thriller and 70s psychological noir, it offers a strange take on the genre. Dennis Hopper is captivating as a troubled forger. The violent ending leaves ambiguity between guilt and a form of dark freedom.
