American Pie 2 (2001)

Critic Consensus: Being a sequel, American Pie 2 doesn't retain the freshness of the original, nor is it as funny.

Movie Info

The students of East Great Falls High have spent a year apart, going to different colleges and learning a bit more about life. Jim has discovered that losing your virginity doesn't necessarily make you suave, while Oz is trying to cope with his girlfriend spending a summer abroad. Meanwhile, Stifler remains his badly behaved self. Coming together for the first time in a year, the guys rent a beach house and vow to make this the best summer ever. As it turns out, whether that will happen or not has a lot to do with the girls. Vicky has become a little less idealistic, while Michelle is more down to earth. Heather, meanwhile, wants to see all the world has to offer her. Between the wild parties, outrageous revelations and yes, a trip to band camp, they discover that times change and people change, but in the end, it's all about sticking together.more

Had director J.B. Rogers simply stuck to the sex jokes and not tried to redeem them, he'd have made a more honest film.

A slipshod sequel that looks tossed together over a weekend by people who couldn't care less.

Our second encounter with the Class of '99 is unashamedly similar to (but way slicker than) its predecessor.

just doesn't have the story and character charm behind it that the original film did

Better than #1 but still raunchy. Teens love it.

While it delivers a decent number of laughs, this second serving of Pie still tastes too much like the first.

Audience Reviews for American Pie 2

The second slice is a much-more-disgustingly-humorous piece with less of the coming-of-age tone that the first installment provided. American Pie 2, though unnecessary, still is a fair portion to experience. 4/5

They've grown but the mentality is still the same.

I love revisiting movies I haven't seen in years, as it's like a whole new experience. I have forgotten so much about this movie, but remembered enough to have an old friend feeling when watching. Picks up the summer after their first year of college and they guys, along with Stifler, get a lake house to have one big huge Summer end party. All sorts of hijinks, raunchy sexcapades, and fantastic heartfelt humor fill this sequel. Not quite as good as the first, but still much better than most sequels, and probably better than it should be. All the performances are perfect, especially Stifler(Sean William Scott), Finch(Eddie Kaye Thomas), and Jim(Jason Biggs). Those three really shine above everyone else. Side note, didn't realize I use some quotes from this movie all the time and I had completely forgotten they came from here("Here's an idea, I'll get you a spoon so you can eat my a**"..Bob outta like that). Great movie, full of laughs, and an absolute must for anyone who likes the first, or just like to laugh in general.
