Movie Info

Elio Gelmini's Anger Me paints an enduring biographical portrait of Kenneth Anger, one of the most fascinating, controversial and brilliant cinematic artists of the past sixty years, and a veritable godfather of independent film. Raised in Tinseltown, Anger was a mere seven years old when he acted in his first motion picture (as the Changeling Prince in William Dieterle's 1936 version of A Midsummer Night's Dream). Audience Reviews for Anger Me

This is a highly interesting, and visually adept documentary, which lets Kenneth Anger, the legendary underground filmmaker, Aleister Crowley advocate, and author of the scandal compendium Hollywood Babylon [Pts. 1 & 2] tell his story - in his own words. Anger's recollections are priceless, especially his associations with legends like Cocteau, Henri Langlois, and Alfred Kinsey. Anger's clashes with censorship, are well chronicled. However, for a guy who made a pretty penny peddling gossip with the Hollywood Babylon books, the film is oddly lacking in juicy stories involving Anger associates like Mick Jagger, Marianne Faithful, Bobby Beausoleil, and of course, Jimmy Page who infamously dropped out of the Lucifer Rising project. As an Anger fan myself, and not a mere fan of his proximity to fame, there are treasures galore. The viewer gets an Anger film by film dissection by the man himself, and it's a real treat. With his restraint, Anger comes across as a class act, and his ruminations at the end of the film, regarding his own mortality are especially poignant. This is the story of a real individualist, patron of the arts, stylistic innovator, and this film is highly recommended.
