Terry Lambert (Steve Guttenberg) is sleeping with Sylvia (Isabelle Huppert), the wife of his boss (Paul Shenar). One night, while in Terry's apartment, Sylvia witnesses a man assault a young woman, Denise (Elizabeth McGovern), on the road below. Not wanting to reveal her affair with Terry, she keeps quiet. Terry instead steps forward, trying to help nab the criminal. However, he never saw the suspect and, when his lies are uncovered, the police begin to suspect his motives.

"The Bedroom Window" requires a pretty hefty suspension of disbelief, but then delivers enough of the goods to make it a moderately entertaining thriller that is very consciously in the Hitchcock mode.

The profound moral of "The Bedroom Window" is: Don't have an affair with your boss' wife, because she might witness a crime from a place where she isn't supposed to be. You could get fired that way.

This is a simple movie about how one small lie, even with good intentions, can lead to bigger and bigger lies and predicaments. Features one of my favorite courtroom scenes of all time. Written by Curtis Hanson who also wrote some of my other favorites including LA Confidential (1997) and Bad Influence (1990).

In the Rear Window someone just observes a crime, while here in a slightly different window the observer also delivers justice. Isabelle Huppert is very good in the role of a femme fatale that ultimately cares only about herself. Steve Guttenberg is the little naive boyfriend who faces a mortal danger while Elizabeth McGovern is convincing as the girlfriend with good intentions. Brad Greenquist plays well the sexual predator.
