I. L @Inigolazarus May 29 The first scene was very atmospheric with some beautiful shots from Zemeckis. But after the first act I began to lose interest. It felt a bit like the result of the Word by Word Story game where three writers wrote three different acts to the same film and cobbled them together. I get that they were taking inspiration from the poem, but I wonder if it would have been better if The’d focused more on Grendel and his mother and built that storyline into an even deeper richer plot rather than trying to cram all tales in at once. A lot of people really don’t like Zemeckis CGI animation, but I think it works for stories like this and A Christmas Carol, it also allows for a diversity of actors. Ray Winstone as Beowulf for example. In live action, an actor is entirely limited by their age, height, and physical build. Performance capture is the ultimate equalizer for acting. It allows a 50-year-old, stocky British actor to play a young, ripped Viking warrior. Overall, a decent film. Well done on everyone involved, fabulous storytelling. Ok not historically accurate but who gives a fig? It's stunning, gripping and marvellous cinema.
