Wading through the murky terrain of Bob Dylan's early career, comprised of myth, legend, and ephemera, comes this insightful documentary. Tracing the making of a legend through extensive interviews, rare footage, and photographs, many of which have never been seen before, the filmmakers show a little-known side of the troubadour. Beginning with his interest in folk music that burgeoned during high school and college, audiences are granted an inside look at Dylan's origins through interviews with his high school English teacher, the guitarist for his first band the Golden Chords, and witnesses to his rebel years in college, during which time he honed his performance skills on the coffeehouse circuit. His move to New York and subsequent success are described by club owners Paul Colby and Art D'Lugoff, and we hear from the experts regarding the early classic albums HIGHWAY 61 REVISITED and BLONDE ON BLONDE, which garnered him the status of an icon. We hear from 1966 world tour drummer Mickey Jones, Dylan's biographer Clinton Heylin, and the editor-in-chief of the longest-running Dylan fanzine, ISIS, Derek Barker. The documentary culminates with Dylan's life-altering motorcycle accident of 1966, making this an enlightening piece of work that focuses on an integral portion of the life of the poet and prophet who changed the face of pop music forever.
