Born Bruce Robinson shortly after the end of the Civil War, the man who was to become best known as Bojangles displayed his knack for dancing early on, when segregation stipulated that no black performer could perform solo. Soon, Bojangles' popularity was such that he could flout these rules, and his star was on the rise, though still hampered by racism as well as his compulsive gambling and womanizing. BOJANGLES is a fascinating and entertaining portrait of a great dancer and a trailblazer for black entertainers who has long been ignored. [More]
