The Toro cheerleading squad from Rancho Carne High School in San Diego has got spirit, spunk, sass and a killer routine that's sure to land them the national championship trophy for the sixth year in a row. But for newly-elected team captain Torrance, the Toros' road to total cheer glory takes a shady turn when she discovers that their perfectly-choreographed routines were in fact stolen from the Clovers, a hip-hop squad from East Compton, by the Toros' former captain.

This earnest and arch story -- so fast paced its formulas are wonderfully obscured -- has an adolescent energy and a tempered sexuality, and it's infused with the moral agenda of a warmly didactic sitcom.

It really is ahead of its time. I still can't think of another teen movie that at least attempts to do the things that it does with cultural appropriation...they could have gone farther...But overall, Bring It On still bringing it 20 years later.

It's a casual fun watch and a relic of its time. There are several problematic moments. Even if they are making fun of it, I think these things could leave a harmful impression on various audiences. Things like body shaming of young girls and handsy male cheerleaders especially stand out to me as very harmful messages. If you can look past that, it's funny how the actors are all delivering their lines.

I’m not sure if there’s a movie that optimizes the turn of the millennium for teenage films more than Bring It On does. 26 years later, while some of the jokes are cringe and eye roll inducing, most of them still land with the precision of a perfectly executed front handspring, step out, round off, back handspring, step out, round off, back handspring, full-twisting layout. Also, Big Red is an incredibly underrated movie villain.
