In this chapter, Kenai emerges after hibernating all winter and is very hungry. Wanting to take his little brother Koda with him to find some berries at Crowberry Ridge, Kenai keeps getting distracted by his friends Rutt and Tuke, who are busy trying to woo two moosettes, but failing miserably. So the brothers are on their way, until Kenai's old friend Nita turns up looking for his help. Kenai must change his plans in order to assist Nita in burning an amulet he gave her years before.
