CBGB Reviews

There was a good movie in here somewhere but this wasn't it. Still pretty much a must see for any veteran of CBGB. Would much prefer to have seen an actual documentary.

offensively bland and i can only imagine anyone who has no background on this thinking it's completely turgid.

I had never been there, but this movie makes me wish I had driven from my country home to the big city. It is amazing to see who must have cooperated to get this done. Of course, it's now a boutique and Iggy is doing car commercials(I thought I was high when I saw that). It did deserve more detail into the story, but as an old geezer, it was great to see Harry Potter's Buddy, Beckett and the dork from Dodgeball way on the other side of the page. Was it worth the money? I paid full price for Waterworld, It was worth the $11 on DirecTV.

An interesting look into CBGB. Quite a few really entertaining performances(Malin Akerman, Freddy Rodriguez, and especially Justin Bartha). But this film is quite juvenile at times for no apparent reason and sometimes the comedy just fails. But for die hard fans of any band in this film, watch it online or rent it.

I hate to just outright say it; but this movie is really bad. The filming style, scriptwriting, and acting are the laziest I've seen in a while. You'd think it'd be able to get by solely on the fact that it's about such a legendary venue in rock history, but the weird cop-out use of comic strips overlapping the actual film, the painfully dumbed down, streamlined, and exaggerated depictions of the people who performed there, and the over all clean feeling of the production just doesn't fit with the dark, broody, dangerous images that CBGBs produces in the minds of those who know about it.

If you don't know anything about CBGB, you'll be lost. If you know more than a tiny bit, you'll be bored and frustrated. I'm not sure who the audience was intended to be. Ultimately shallow, pointless, and poorly constructed. Hilly and CBGB deserved much, much better.

Punk was a very anti mainstream movement, so to make a big budget mainstream movie documenting it all very much contradicts the majority of the point. BUT Malin Ackerman has always been my first choice to play Debbie Harry, and since the gods listened I shall go watch this hopefully good movie with hopefully a lot of Blondie! TOMATOMETER prediction is 65-70%

I saw it at an early screening and it totally rocked!! I hate all the nahsayers who probably weren't even there... It was right on, right down to foul bathrooms and the dog crap... I could practically smell the beer and my ears were ringing!! Loved it!!

Among the worst movies I've ever seen, which is crazy because the cast and the source material is so great.
