Violent and highly stylized, the film stars Nero as a Swedish mercenary and Tomas Milian as a revolutionary who attempt liberate an imprisoned professor (Rey) who holds the code to a safe containing a small fortune. However, one of Nero's old partners, John (Palance), a psychotic mercenary who has a wooden hand and the disturbing habit of feeding his pet hawk human flesh, throws a wrench into Nero's plans when he turns up with a few ideas of his own about what to do with the money.
