This adaptation of Edward Albee's A DELICATE BALANCE was part of the American Film Theater series, conceived in the 1970s by producer Ely Landau, and meant to be shown theatrically just like a play, with tickets sold in advance. Katharine Hepburn stars as Agnes, a controlling middle-aged woman who lives in the upper middle-class Connecticut suburbs. When her alcoholic sister, troubled daughter, and emotionally distraught neighbors all descend on Agnes' house one evening, it creates more than a few conflicts and confrontations. Directed by Tony Richardson, this film brings out the scathing wit of the Albee play with the help of its magnificent cast. [More]
