Taylor Oct 12 The Descent scares from the first to last scene. Claustrophobic and nauseating in the best way. See more Jack C @RT32999762 2d Pros: Jump scares made me jump. Visual effects were acceptable for the year it came out, as well as sound design. Cons: Initial character establishment was poor. Sarah's trauma and loss seemed insignificant to the rest of the movie. Some of the creatures on-screen lore was lazy and horror-hungry (and not in the good way). Some of the lighting effects were pretty bad (e.g. the green glow stick). Tension was created by the accident made by Juno however it was not carried out in a rich way. See more Bret M. @BretM-3 May 31 For the most part, this movie is mid in my opinion. The first hour or so is pretty boring to me, but once this movie gets there, boy does it really get there!! You see, this movie thrives on fear, getting under your skin, and just being creepy. If the goal of this movie was to make me claustrophobic, it worked. When they’re climbing through tight, cramped, and small tunnels, it really got under my skin. And when the girls eventually do come upon this movie’s creatures, they’re creepy and violent. But other than being creepy, this movie doesn’t have a whole lot going for it. The story wasn’t much to rave about, and I found myself not really caring about the characters. A couple of them get development, but most just feel like they’re there. Overall, I still don’t think this movie is bad, but it definitely has its strengths and weaknesses.
