When the world needed a hero, they called a villain.

Good animated movie! Despicable Me 2 is a fast paced, funny, feel good film that keeps you entertained from the 1st minute to the last. The pace of the film moves along nicely and keeps the audience attention very well. It has many laugh out loud moments, a decent mix of children humor and adult humor. I found the visuals very impressive, it was very colorful and very imaginative. The action scenes we also very well done. This movie gives a heartfelt message, showing us that you don't need to miss being evil, if you have friends, and family in your life.

While Gru, the ex-supervillain is adjusting to family life and an attempted honest living in the jam business, a secret Arctic laboratory is stolen. The Anti-Villain League decides it needs an insider's help and recruits Gru in the investigation. Together with the eccentric AVL agent, Lucy Wilde, Gru concludes that his prime suspect is the presumed dead supervillain, El Macho, whose his teenage son is also making the moves on his eldest daughter, Margo. Seemingly blinded by his overprotectiveness of his children and his growing mutual attraction to Lucy, Gru seems on the wrong track even as his minions are being quietly kidnapped en masse for some malevolent purpose.

The creators reverently acknowledge their (surprising?) fans by underscoring that which they loved and leaving out the so so as Gru gets a chance to catch a villain instead of merely being a reformed one. And while there's mucho Minion comedy to fill inbetween, I had imagined a tale to bring them closer to the story's center - as they already inhabit (who are they, where do they come from and why do they serve?) - other than this one where Gru finds love. Maybe the next one? Nonetheless the best entertainment value this summer so far, by far.

As a whole movie, I found this movie is very light and entertaining but has a very weak storyline and really just depends on the Minions with their behavior..

while actually being quite a bit funnier than the first film, i found this sequel to be inferior in almost every other area. the animation and character design was shoddy, the story weak and even boring at times, and the villain was incredibly underwhelming. my kids loved it, and the film scores very well for laughs, but if they keep the series going i would like to see the ingenuity of the first film restored to the franchise.

It's fun, light-hearted and presented with splendid animation but the plot is terribly thin in themes and complexity. There's not much in authentic emotion on any level and I feel like the writers completely missed some interesting ideas with the premise once again. (A GOOD super VILLAIN)

Gru is a boring lead, the girls have a frivolous subplot, the new antagonist is bland and as loveable as Lucy & Dr. Nefario can be... they simply don't offer any weight.

Instead we're blasted repeatedly with Minion-gags in an elementary espionage/romance, which is fine, but I really wish the film strived for more than such a shallow, narrow demographic.

I wanted to love this, because the first movie was a 5 star triumph for me...but I just thought that it was so so. The Minions are of course absolutely adorable. The plot of the rest of this movie left me wishing that they had never made this one...maybe I just expected too much. :(

It's largely tedious with a series of tired jokes that don't really land. However, it is visually stunning, and occasionally funny and thrilling, and wins points for a creative and compelling storyline full of colorful (if at times obnoxious) characters.

Now retired, supervillian Gru is recruited by the Anti-Villain league to infiltrate a mall where one of the merchants is plotting to take over the world; he's simultaneously annoyed by and secretly attracted to Lucy, his gung ho assigned partner. Good kid flick with an entertaining villain and lots of slapstick from the little yellow Minions.

"Despicable Me 2" is awesome. Plain and simple, this movie is great. Good story, action, and it's hilarious. Those minions are some of the funniest characters I've ever seen in animated movies. This is one of those sequels that took the first movie, built off of it, and was actually better. Here Gru(Steve Carell) is recruited to help the AVL(Anti-Villain League) to help stop a villain that could destroy the world. Kristin Wigg voices Lucy, his partner/love interest, and she really does great. The whole cast is fantastic and you can tell this movie was made with a lot of love and fun. If I had any complaint it's that the daughters weren't in it very much. The littlest one is so cute and has a couple hilarious scenes. But, man those minions are awesome. They have a musical number at the end of the movie that had me almost in tears. Also my 2 year old and I say "bottom" to each other and laugh everyday now. I honestly can't see how anyone wouldn't like this movie. It's just so fun and funny, that everyone in the family would enjoy it. "Monsters U" was great, but this is the best animated movie/comedy of the Summer.

This is just witty and, I hate to admit it, adorable. But the wit overwhelms even the very funny slapstick minions and I can hold my head up as the only person over 12 in the audience!

The humour is never in question but the story is a little too slight. Full review later.

I really enjoyed the first Despicable Me movie, but I had a bit of a hard time getting into this sequel. While this one did have a more complex plot than the first one did, I like the first one's story of a villain vs. villain in a mission to steal the moon. Despicable Me 2 still has the charm and fun intact though. Some of the jokes didn't land but when they did they produced a lot of laughter. It's a movie that set out to be another hit with families and it succeeded. I like the minions and I'm glad they did much more in this movie than the first. Overall: It's a good sequel but it does not surpass its predecessor. Letter Grade: B-

Despicable Me 2 picks up where the first left off with even more raunchy laughter and hysteria. The sequel to the 2010 blockbuster smash-hit provides more comedic yet visually entertaining spectacles as it gives the so-called "Minions" more of a major role. Although the story isn't as inspiring and is more loosely than the first it's still, regardless, a fantastic summer film that will keep the family smiling and laughing throughout. 4/5
