The sheltered teen lives with her aunts Nellie and Margo, two women who are as different as night and day. Aunt Nellie, who lords over their household, is a sour spinster and strict disciplinarian. But her younger sister Margo is a more romantic soul to whom Rita turns for advice when she falls in love with a handsome American G.I. While Margo encourages Rita to pursue the budding relationship, Nellie chides the girl for behaving improperly.
