Popular with older men craving some young Asian loving, Ethan also forges a strong bond with Remigio, an attractive pimp of sorts who gets Ethan acquainted with drugs and other illegal activities. After learning that Ethan's family is away for the holidays, the two young men go to Ethan's former home to retrieve his belongings. But what starts out as a simple mission becomes a highly complicated mental, emotional, and physical struggle when Ethan's father shows up and a hostage situation ensues. [More]

Reviews for Ethan Mao
Messy admixtures of drama and mockery crucially undermine pic's serious message.
It builds tension gradually but surely to an exceptionally strong payoff.
Nobody onscreen seems to realize that this deadeningly self-serious treatment of family dysfunction is so overwrought that it becomes a spot-on satire of low-budget ineptitude.
Even allowing for the burdens of low-budget filmmaking, Ethan Mao is little more than a revenge fantasy for anyone whose parents ever gave him or her a hard time.
For a low-budget indie with no special effects, Ethan Mao is a treat to look at.
It'd be unfair to reveal whether Ethan's prayers go answered, but viewers can take comfort in knowing that their own prayers will be: Yes, this movie, eventually, comes to an end.
