Oskar (Thomas Horn), who lost his father (Tom Hanks) in the 9/11 attack on the World Trade Center, is convinced that his dad left a final message for him somewhere in the city. Upon finding a mysterious key in his father's closet, Oskar sets out in search of the lock it fits. Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close is a deeply emotional and beautifully crafted drama that tells a heartbreaking story of grief, trauma, and healing. Sandra Bullock and Tom Hanks are both excellent, but the true heart of the film is the young lead, who carries so much of the emotional weight and keeps the audience fully invested. What makes the movie so powerful is how it explores the aftermath of 9/11 through the eyes of a child trying to hold onto his father’s memory. His journey feels personal, raw, and incredibly moving. The screenplay does a strong job balancing emotional pain with a sense of mystery and discovery, making the story feel intimate rather than overwhelming. Another case where the critics and I must have been watching a different film. Enjoyed this film very much and recommend for anyone who has an emotional range. A real shame the reviews aren’t more positive so more people would be encouraged to experience this film. Hope my comments encourage more people to watch.
