Emile Buisson (Jean-Louis Trintignant) became a notorious criminal when he escaped from prison in 1947 after his wife and child died. Traumatized and psychopathic, Buisson eluded the authorities by killing anyone he suspected of informing. Overburdened cop Borniche (Alain Delon, PLEIN SOLEIL) is assigned the case, and he tracks Buisson for over three years before he closes in on the serial killer.
