Synopsis: Although intent on avenging the death of their master, Lord Asano, his 47 samurai, led by Kuranosuke Oishi (Chojuro Kawarasaki), are forced to bide their time while awaiting a ruling on a petition... Although intent on avenging the death of their master, Lord Asano, his 47 samurai, led by Kuranosuke Oishi (Chojuro Kawarasaki), are forced to bide their time while awaiting a ruling on a petition that they've submitted to Lord Kira (Mantoyo Mimasu) as a red herring. As Oishi carries on a charade of nonchalance over the death of his master, feigning a cynical selfishness, his reputation suffers a steep decline. Yet he succeeds in his goal of allaying the slightest possible suspicion in the mind of Lord Kira that the ronin will take revenge. Eventually, however, Oishi rallys his fellow samurai, who are prepared to end the reign of Lord Kira. Note: Because the length of the film exceeded three hours, the production company chose to release it in two parts. [More]
