Omega S. @Devilman May 8 This movie has done a good job of building on what the previous movies had done well. I'm watching these movies in order as I review them and it greatly helps the experience. The writing for the human portions continues to improve and Ghidorah's introduction opened up the greater universe in a nice way The little women singing for Mothra always crack me up because it's so silly yet it fits in the universe. Rodan vs Godzilla is an enjoyable fight with some silly segments while also making them both look huge and intimidating in their environments. They really did a good job back in the day making the Kaiju fit the world they live in. I don't know if it was intentional or not but Godzilla is a lot goofier in this movie and it's very endearing. Each of the Kaiju feel like they were given proper screen time and effort in the climatic final battle. You can really tell these movies were made with love and effort. The Final Battle Is Great. See more George T @RT67220666 Nov 16 A rare example in the Godzilla franchise where the monsters actually bog down the movie. The human plot here is actually really good. Unfortunately, the monster plot is very disconnected from the human plot, making it hard to get engaged in the latter. The silliness of the monsters also clashes with the seriousness of the human plot. If you want a genuinely good movie, look elsewhere. But if you wanna see giant monsters being drunk idiots, i’d recommend this one. The story follows Princess Selina, abducted by aliens, who predicts the return of Godzilla, Rodan, and the arrival of the space monster Ghidorah. The Shobijin call Mothra to unite Godzilla and Rodan against this new threat. Godzilla is now clearly a hero, Ghidorah the ultimate villain, and the battles are often comically anthropomorphized, with monsters tossing rocks or clashing like wrestlers, while Mothra appears only as a larva. Effects suffer from budget constraints, yet some scenes—like Ghidorah’s attack on Tokyo—remain impressive. Surprisingly, the human subplot involving the princess and assassins is well-developed, almost strong enough to carry the film on its own. Though occasionally ridiculous, the movie is notable for Ghidorah’s first appearance and the remarkable feat of completing it under such tight deadlines. See more Read all reviews
