Mimi H @RT44081477 Jun 19 I give this cinematic trash -5 stars. I watched The Godfather trilogy for the first time, and while the first film was excellent and Part II was the true masterpiece, Part III was a disaster. I watched the Coda version because it was supposed to be the improved cut, but if this is the better version, I cannot imagine how bad the original was. The acting is weak, the dialogue is cheesy, the script makes no sense, and the story feels completely disconnected from the first two films. The biggest problem is Michael Corleone. I do not know who Al Pacino is playing here, but it does not feel like the same cold, controlled, calculating Michael from Parts I and II. Andy Garcia is miscast, Sofia Coppola is unbearable, and the cousin romance storyline is nauseating and unnecessary. This does not feel like the conclusion to a legendary trilogy. It feels like a bad imitation wearing the Corleone name as a costume. The series should have ended after Part II. See more Chu C @RT05690015 Jun 14 Just finished watching all 3 over 3 weekends. Part 1 and 2 are masterpieces, part 3 is literally an afterthought and feels it. Al Pacino is awesome and his performance is great. If they had limited to more of him and less of others it would have been far better. Also Diane Keaton is fantastic as always. Cardinal Lamberto/ Pope John Paul I is also brief but powerful in his performance. Andy Garcia is decent, but his arc doesn't make sense and he flails between hot headed and calculating far too quickly. The cinematography and music are fantastic though. Overall the story doesn't really make so much sense and has unbelievable murder scenes and unfortunately some poor acting from other cast members. I will definitely watch 1 and 2 again, but will skip 3 in future. I own the 4k set with the Coda edition of part 3. See more Mark B @Thelaser555 Jun 9 It's still a great movie, but this time, it's just too long and with it, loses its sharpness, although ironically, the latter part of the movie is the best bit. Pacino still gives a brilliant, spell-binding performance as the ageing head of the Corleone family who wants to be strictly 'legit' but the 'old ways' remain in his DNA. He orders the murder of his brother which he later regrets and then there's skullduggery at the Vatican and within the Vatican Bank after Pacino 'donates' 600 million dollars which is stolen from a number of powerful insiders. Pacino orders revenge killings of the Arch Bishop, no less, and there's a particularly grisly ending to the head of the bank who is stabbed through the eye with his own glasses. As the drama escalates , there now treachery everywhere against Pacino, who survives being shot five times, as he brutally orders the murder of all those who have crossed him or who have plotted against him. This film has a lot left to desire. Pacino gives a good passable performance in a sea of underperformances. And while this film has the shortest run time in the entire trilogy it feels like it's the longest in the Trilogy with its incredibly slow pacing.
