A perfect balance of cinematic professionalism and grit, with a runaway performance by Lili Taylor, the film takes us inside of Warhol's legendary kingdom of underground art and broken characters. See more 05/01/2021 It's hard to 'shoot' someone famous and admire them at the same time. Based on the true story Lilli Taylor is Valerie Solanas. She's an upcoming writer with a background in psychology. Her biggest idol is Andy Warhol played by Jarred Harris. But when she gets to the city she turns to prostitution mostly cause of a result due to child abuse in her family. So she plans to turn that around working with Warhol. She believes in the female superiority complex, she's determined to change the system laying out the flaws with men. A book publisher pitches an idea to write a sexually explicit novel she wants Warhol to produce her play. From ambitious author to obsessive, delusional admirer Valerie embarks on a dangerous course of events. This was the 60s; many of the superstars were queer, including drag queens and transgender socialites. The concept of free love was steadily becoming a thing during these times, in contrast to the conservative views of the 50s and earlier. Queer people have always existed, but now it was becoming more visible. Warhol's art studio, known as The Factory, was a regular hangout for a variety of artists, performers, and other personalities. With Valerie she even presented her scum manifesto; the SCUM Manifesto was a critique of patriarchy by Solanas to vent her anger at how she was treated, how she grew up, and how she saw the world. Turns out she was struggling with mental illness and the more Warhol put off her play the more paranoid and betrayed she felt. Lilli Taylor is spectacular as this passionate yet unstable wannabe artist. It's very sad to see Valerie going off the deep end when all else fails. Jarred Harris plays Andy Warhol to a considerable degree. Being passionate can only go so far until you get completely brushed aside. Watch if you are a fan of that time period or Andy Warhol etc... interesting movie.
