Still, if the film is ultimately disappointing it is in part because it begins so well, and there is a lot to enjoy before the over-the-top final act. Go to Full Review

I like Downey Jr, usually, with his dark wounded eyes, but here his performance veers between going though the motions and a look which seems to say, "Hey, what film am I doing again?" Go to Full Review

Chris S @Janomi 14h Iron Man remains one of the MCU's strongest origin stories because it gets the fundamentals exactly right. Jon Favreau keeps the pacing tight, balancing action, humor, and character development while making Tony Stark's transformation from arrogant weapons manufacturer to selfless hero feel completely earned. Robert Downey Jr. doesn't just play Tony Stark—he defines him, bringing the perfect mix of charisma, wit, confidence, and vulnerability to a character who would become the face of the MCU. Jeff Bridges is excellent as Obadiah Stane, though the character becomes less interesting once the Iron Monger armor enters the picture. Beneath the spectacle is a surprisingly grounded story about redemption and responsibility, making Iron Man just as engaging today as it was when it launched the Marvel Cinematic Universe. See more Cristian L @Furanh Jun 19 Putting personal attachment aside, this is still a very solid film with plenty of sharp dialogue, an engaging pace, and a lot of heart (mechanical, in this case). If there’s a flaw, it might be that there are relatively few action sequences, and this version of Iron Man doesn’t appear all that often. He also almost never seems to help civilians, which makes me question what kind of hero he actually sees himself as. (i mean, chasing terrorists is fine, but...) Jon Favreau’s direction is competent and functional, but not especially distinctive. The biggest downside, in my opinion, is the original score, which often feels overly intrusive in certain scenes, even if it has since become iconic. See more Read all reviews
