Located off the coast of Costa Rica, the Jurassic World luxury resort provides a habitat for an array of genetically engineered dinosaurs, including the vicious and intelligent Indominus rex. When the massive creature escapes, it sets off a chain reaction that causes the other dinos to run amok. Now, it's up to a former military man and animal expert to use his special skills to save two young brothers and the rest of the tourists from an all-out, prehistoric assault.

For the same reason that the otherwise okay Fast and Furious sequels have taken on a previously unimaginable level of quality and prominence, Jurassic World works as a charming, dumb-fun summer blockbuster far better than it really has any right to.

Just as the dictionary definition of "spectacle" states, the blockbuster is unusual, notable, and entertaining in an eye-catching, dramatic, and very public way. It is big, loud, and dumb, but, hot damn, it sure is fun.

Jurassic World is an entertaining but uneven revival that understands the visual power of the franchise while leaning too heavily on nostalgia. Colin Trevorrow builds the park as a glossy modern spectacle, but the film often feels more like a carefully engineered brand return than a story with a strong identity of its own. Its meta idea about audiences demanding something bigger is clever, yet the narrative weakens when escalation replaces credibility. The danger feels less grounded because the world asks the viewer to accept too many absurd decisions and tonal shifts. Chris Pratt brings charisma, though many lines feel designed to sound iconic rather than natural. Bryce Dallas Howard gives the film more urgency and vulnerability. By the end, the spectacle is polished and fun, but the dinosaurs feel less like animals than figures arranged for applause. Jurassic World is watchable, but its nostalgia rarely recaptures the wonder it tries to resurrect.
