Inside Llewyn Davis
Bloody and irredeemably misanthropic.
More twee than any movie about serial murder has a right to be.
Too competent as a Fargo-esque indie murder comedy to dismiss (yet too dull to fully embrace), the Canadian Just Buried yields serviceable results from material that's got rigor mortis.
| Original Score: 3/6
Its ability to maintain such a pleasant facade in the midst of so much gruesomeness may be the creepiest thing about it.
| Original Score: 2.5/4
Any episode of Six Feet Under had more sharp, mordant wit and freewheeling derangement than you'll find in Just Buried.
| Original Score: 2.5/5
Has its wonky charms, but suffers from trying too hard to be quirky.
| Original Score: 2/4
...sporadically amusing yet entirely uneven...
Blame the Brits for making this kind of morbid farce look easy...
| Original Score: 1.5/4
Sometimes a big batch of small chuckles, a few strong performances and a quietly amusing concept are enough to keep a comedy afloat.
