The didactic director, known as both the Idiot and the Prince, furiously works to finish shooting. He does not slow down enough, however, to give his lead actress any leeway. Trying to extract the best performance he can, the director takes every opportunity to insult and humiliate her. The deadline nears for his ridiculous film while more interference ranging from golf to a pop music recording session stands in the director's way. A rare meaty acting role for Jean-Luc Godard highlights the influential filmmaker's surreal 1987 comedy. The film was shot by Caroline Champetier (PONETTE) and stars Jane Birkin as the Cricket.
