The Kids in the Hall, Canada's celebrated sketch comedy troupe, make their feature film debut playing more than 40 roles between them in this slapstick tale of a deranged scientist in the employ of Roritor Pharmaceuticals who develops Gleemonex, a pill designed to make the taker happy all the time. As the pill begins to cut across every social and economic boundary, virtually eliminating depression, it is discovered that Gleemonex has a very serious side effect: it may put its users into a coma. BRAIN CANDY uses this story as a loose springboard to allow the Kids to indulge in their trademark mayhem, with each member diving into both male and female roles with equal aplomb. [Less]

Reviews
I was privy to an early test screening of this, and it was weirder and better than the final product. Even the final, watered-down version beats the hell out of most safe so-called comedies, though.

You can see the performers/writers laboring to keep the laughs coming in stories that would have worked better as skits.

Much like how South Park: BL & U proved a brilliant expansion from its source material, Brain Candy captures the Canadian Kids at their most cleverly unglued.
