Joel H @786Joel May 6 I know I'm mostly flying on nostalgia here, but I'm a fan of Ladyhawke. This film tells a timeless tale, anchored to the 80s by the cheesy synthesized soundtrack. I can’t quite tell how I feel about Matthew Broderick (a.k.a. Falconer Bueller) in this movie. At some parts, he feels completely out of place in this fantasy world, yet during others, his comedic delivery is a welcome relief to the somber tone. But Rutger Hauer is fantastic, Michelle Pfieffer is mesmerizing, and the film is beautifully shot. I won’t be surprised if they remake Ladyhawke, but I doubt it will capture the magic of the original. The movie has a strong sense of personality, and even when it is a bit uneven, that only adds to its charm. The performances, setting, and overall vibe make it easy to appreciate as a true classic with a distinctive identity. It may not be perfect, but it is absolutely worth watching for how unique it is. Matthew Broderick feels remarkably out of place, delivering a performance that is super distracting and leans a bit too heavily into modern neuroticism for a 12th-century setting. Compounding this is the synth-pop score, which (while catchy in its own right) clashes violently with the film's gothic atmosphere. He sat in front of the television and he was so fixed on this movie. It was incredible. 15 years ago, he died. He suffered from schizophrenia. Today, January 26 is his birthday. He would have been 42 years old. So every year without fail, on his birthday , I watch this movie and every year without fail. I watch it as though it was the first time I saw it. I love this movie. I will always love this movie. I guess it means more to me than most people who are leaving reviews on this site. I welcome anyone that has not seen this film to sit down. Take your time check it out. It’s a beautifully made film fantasy, indeed, but I love fantasy. It almost brings my son back to me and his mom and his sister. I hope you enjoy this film. See more Jace E @thefilmguy Oct 22 What an interesting slice of cinema history. Ladyhawke is a medieval period piece with a score that would fit better in Tron. A young Matthew Broderick has an on again/off again British accent, the action sequences are clunky and the nature of the "curse" is a bit out there. That being said, there is a strange charm to this movie that keeps me wanting to go back for more. I can't explain it, but I actually enjoyed this film quite a bit. What's not to like?! It should be said that the musical score is hilariously bad. The traveling music is basically synthy 80s dance music. When we watched it as a family, we actually stood up and danced to those bits, so we had fun! John Wood brings an ominous gravity to the screen with his unhinged bishop of Aquila. Matthew Broderick almost steals the show as Mouse; he brought his character to life so vividly that I was confused about who the protagonist was. Michelle Pfeiffer and Rutger Hauer both bring brilliant intelligence and deep feeling to the tragic love story archetype. See more Read all reviews
