Poignant and masterful, Live-In Maid is an involving unorthodox presentation of the averse relationship, more appropriately, friendship, of an imperious bourgeois and a taciturn domestic attendant. Emotionally complex and ambiguous, Live-In Maid is transcendental of social class, precisely aware of the situation and disposition of the bourgeoisie in the times of economic recession and profoundly acquainted with the vicissitudes and realities of life. Emphatic.

A well crafted film study of declining social status and precarious friendships. Understated and subtle but brilliantly presented.

"Live-in Maid" is set around the financial crisis that crippled the Argentinian economy in 2001. Beba(Norma Aleandro) has not been able to pay her maid, Dora(Norma Argnentina), for the past several months. Beba is currently trying to sell cosmetics, as she desperately tries to hold onto her dignity and pride but they are fading fast. Dora has worked for Beba's family for the past 28 years but is getting frustrated at the lack of money since she would like her significant other, Miguel(Raul Panguinao), to pave the floor of his house.

"Live-in Maid" is a low-key observation on the nature of class in society. Beba and Dora come from very different backgrounds but in the film they both have something in common - a lack of money. At first, I would say the two women share a symbiotic relationship but could they actually be friends?

a good script - two good actors - and a good director to put it all together - makes a very good film

Boring. Didn't make it half way through movie. Main character woman very unappealing and uninteresting. I'm afraid this movie is too true-to-life.

This is just such a deep drama but made beautifully out of tiny and every day details. I loved the stunning performances and the perfect rhythm. This movie relies completely in the relationship of these two woman and how their completely opposite life's get to depend so much on each other.

A woman facing financial hardships and loneliness and her live-in maid for the last 30 years are the main characters in this great Argentinian movie. The live-in maid job is one of very peculiar characteristics (specially in Latin America) and even though is on decline in several countries, it is still practiced by several people. The movie succeeds in portraying these pecularities, namely: the tight bond between the maid and the family (the non existent monthly payments and the sometimes humiliating treatment notwithstanding), the high mutual dependency between employer and employee (specially when both are adults in their 50's or more), the threats about quitting the job that never materialize, etc. I saw the movie with english subtitles (I speak in Spanigh though). They were really bad, not because of the translation in itself, but because of all the things they missed, in particular the voices on the TV which informed the viewer about the economic and social environment in Argentina during the years the movie was staged.

As Ofo said, it's a heart-felt, smooth and simply story-telling, but obviously I need more, to say, spectacles.

The glacial pace of this Argentinian slice of life would probably send most home viewers reeling into subconsciousness. For those who catch it on the big-screen, however, it comes off as a riveting, thoroughly nuanced character study whose insistance on observing rather than entertaining works to great effect.

Me fascina esta película. Un retrato sumamente perfecto y conmovedor de las diferencias de clase en Argentina y de la inevitable intimidad emocional que resulta entre el opresor y el oprimido.

Just wanted to let you know that the review below is quite in inaccurate. I doubt the person who wrote it actually saw the film.
