Long Pants (1927)
In Long Pants, the super-nova success of Harry Langdon's feature-film career began to rapidly dim. Frank Capra directed the production, although Langdon fired him during the editing of the film. This troubled effort has Harry playing a young man who dreams about growing up to become a great lover. Unfortunately, his reverie is shattered when he realizes that his mother (Gladys Brockwell) still makes him wear knee breeches. But he begs his mother, and she finally assents to allowing him to wear long pants. It's a good thing too, since Harry's neighbors are arranging Harry's marriage to Priscilla (Priscilla Bonner). But while arrangements are being made for the wedding, Harry is busy making arrangements of his own -- after having met a Vamp (Alma Bennett) while riding his bicycle. Coming back home, he attempts to kill Priscilla but finally goes ahead with the wedding. At the altar, while glancing at a newspaper that reports that the Vamp has been jailed for killing her husband, he flees the wedding to rescue her. … More
