The movie's young lead, Gretchen Lodge, making her big-screen debut, demonstrates a natural star presence.

This genre of horror film is played out - or at least this slight, rarely unnerving effort makes it seem so.

Generating suspense without blowing the special-effects budget, Mr. Sanchez paints an intimate portrait of a tormented personality.

Common sense and basic logic are left are the door; there's a brief creature effect that is laughably, outlandishly awful.

[Sanchez] demonstrates that a well-timed door slam and a cleverly framed shot of an ordinary household object are as creepy as ever.

Lovely Molly is a portrait of either spiraling madness or a haunting, and it deftly handles the slow erosion of its title character's consciousness.

Sánchez is going for a fear that's closer to home than any mysterious bumps in the night. His Polanskian psychodrama, shrouded by our expectations, develops violently and, it must be said, with little sense of actual domestic tragedy.

Has all the interest of watching an inexplicably untreated wound fester.

The film's inconsistent, largely bankrupt style is second to how hard and tackily it leans on the horror of child abuse to goose audiences.

Sanchez shows tremendous restraint in keeping it simple and in the end, rewards the audience with a haunting little film that's ultimately timeless.

This is easily Sanchez's best work as a director since The Blair Witch Project.
