Lucas, a nerdy 14-year-old, has skipped two grades and is having a tough time fitting in with his older classmates. The jocks make fun of him, and the girls barely know that he's alive. During the summer, Lucas's life is brightened by his new neighbor, who quickly becomes his good friend. Unfortunately, to Lucas she's a lot more than that, and when school begins again he realizes, to his dismay, that Maggie no longer belongs to him alone.
