When Jane (Karen Dotrice) and Michael (Matthew Garber), the children of the wealthy and uptight Banks family, are faced with the prospect of a new nanny, they are pleasantly surprised by the arrival of the magical Mary Poppins (Julie Andrews). One of my favorite movies ever! The nostalgia this brings on is so strong and sweet; every song is a joy to watch and every performance is stunning. The runtime does feel slightly hefty at times, but my attention was never lost.

Mary Poppins is a film I really enjoy because it gives me a strong sense of nostalgia and reminds me of the shows and movies I watched as a child. I especially liked the way the plot unfolds and how the themes of family, imagination, and childhood wonder are woven throughout the story. Throughout this classic, there are spoken words to describe this extraordinary, wonderfully grand musical with qualities that are distinctively Disney apart from the fading genre when its imaginative perfection is the storytelling with memorably loving tunes attributing to the branded peak. It boasts a delightful heart for all ages, with Andrews’s titularly nuanced character being the soulful heart while Van Dyke’s signature spirit perfectly complements in balancing the deliverance with fun tour-de-force.
