Consensus: It isn't terribly deep, but it's witty and undeniably charming, and the cast is obviously having fun.

Reviews for Maverick
Maverick may be as close as anything comes to a perfect summer movie (as opposed to a perfect movie).
Affectionate, amiable, eager-to-please, in a TV-movieish sort of way.
A gaudy reincarnation of the TV series with Mel Gibson, Jodie Foster and James Garner flashing diamonds, breaking hearts and clubbing cliches damn near to death.
The first lighthearted, laugh-oriented family Western in a long time, and one of the nice things about it is, it doesn't feel the need to justify its existence. It acts like it's the most natural thing in the world to be a Western.
