It can't be said enough how much Smith's charisma and Jones' deadpan delivery almost save this movie and it's to their credit that this movie isn't as bad as it should be.
| Original Score: 4/10
In the absence of the first film's rhythm, wit, and novelty, it's a typically lazy, diminishing-returns sequel.
| Original Score: 2.5/4
"Men in Black II" never matched the first film's perfect blend of action, comedy, and sci-fi elements.
| Original Score: 5/10
Crazy creatures, some scares, and loads of fun.
| Original Score: 4/5
A fiercely and aggressively bad movie...
...falls prey to the syndrome that affects many sequels: the apparently irresistible desire to replicate the formula from the first film.
About the most uninspired rehash of a popular hit I've ever seen.
| Original Score: 1/5
A virtually identical remake of the 1997 blockbuster which offers almost nothing new.
| Original Score: 2/4
The down-home satire of how we cope with cultural difference has evaporated, replaced by jazzy effects that wear out their welcome by the halfway mark.
The movie's smart, funny and fairly forgettable.
Men in Black II could care less whether you believe in it or not, or frankly, whether you bought the ticket and spent your time on the concession line trying to buy Goobers.
| Original Score: '2'
The acting is good, the direction is good, the special effects are great, only the jokes are a little flat and far between and nothing very original is offered up here.
Sadly, the movie has no new ideas worth mentioning.
| Original Score: D
This film is so full of special effects that it seems as if there are only about seven minutes of actual story-telling from which to decipher a plot.
| Original Score: 1/10
We watch and think, 'Yeah. So? What else can they do?' It's not that it's dull so much as that it's familiar.
| Original Score: C+
Men in Black II doesn't replicate the blithely funny and hip attitude of the original.
Like a lot of the movie, the special effects are 'been there, done that.'
| Original Score: 64/100
With MIB2, [Sonnenfeld] triumphs yet again in giving us a quick -- albeit silly -- cinematic fix.
A textbook example of a redundant, middle-of-the-road summer sequel tailored to please the most easily entertained of moviegoers.
The best thing about Men in Black II is the talking dog.
