Based on a story by famed science fiction writer Philip K. Dick, "Minority Report" is an action-detective thriller set in Washington D.C. in 2054, where police utilize a psychic technology to arrest and convict murderers before they commit their crime. Tom Cruise plays the head of this Precrime unit and is himself accused of the future murder of a man he hasn't even met.

Minority Report does offer a few issues to ponder, and given the mindlessness of most summer action specials, it’s something of an intellectual feast, even if it’s all hors d’oeuvres.

I think the premise is very interesting, but it honestly felt too long, and the climax was quite rushed. It feels like Spielberg. Tom Cruise is okay. I wouldn't watch it again.

Minority Report works because its science fiction premise is built around a deeply human dilemma. Steven Spielberg uses a future of prediction, surveillance and advanced technology to ask whether justice can exist when punishment arrives before choice. The film is tense and visually ambitious, but its real strength is moral uncertainty. Tom Cruise gives the story a strong emotional center, balancing action with guilt, fear and desperation. The direction keeps the rhythm sharp, moving between spectacle and reflection without losing tension. Some visual effects have aged, and certain details of the system remain unclear, but those flaws do not weaken the central question. The film endures because it asks whether a predicted crime is the same as a committed one, and whether knowing the future destroys the freedom to change it.
