One of the most wacked-out hilarious movies we have ever seen based on DeGeneres's comedy, and the experience of dating that includes telling the person you're dating to "just be yourself". Based on the reviews, the fact that it's a parody (supposedly, dark) seems to have gone over a lot of people's heads (including critics). Your loss. We still watch it, laugh our asses off, and not-so-fondly reminisce about our own dating disasters. See more Veronica A @RT48278320 Jul 22 Although this movie TRIES to be funny, it isn't. Whitman is so creepy that if you removed the madcap comedic elements, you'd have "Play Misty for Me" or "Fatal Attraction." About the only lesson you can take away from the movie is this: if someone tells you "no," take it for an answer and LEAVE HER/HIM ALONE! Oh, and this, too: DO NOT PRESSURE anyone to get married! Bill Pullman pulls of just the right amount of wry wit. There are also little touches, such as Bill's character actually getting uglier as his luster fades. The one shortcoming is Ellen's performance, which is a bit stiffer than her character was meant to be, or that is how it comes off. But hey, Ellen is a stand up comedian, and a successful television host. Her acting was a short foray and she had no time to develop those skills. One may also keep in mind this was shortly before Ellen came out as gay, so that may have added some pressure. All in all I have see this movie about 20 times and will be watching many more. See more Lesley E @RT07244282 08/24/2020 Ok, not the funniest movie in the world, but certainly not the worst rom-com ever. Seriously, 7%!!! I think the critics were overly harsh with this film. Yeah, the humour is outdated and a bit flat at times, but I still wouldn't call this the worst rom-com ever made. My final verdict: 2 and a half stars: even with its flaws, it's still an interesting movie to watch and wouldn't mind re-watching or recommending this to someone. See more 07/12/2020 Saw this in the theater, and over half the audience walked out. It had so much potential to be funny, which made it even worse. Ellen tells the story of how she accidentally murdered her husband on their wedding day. When she meets and falls for him, she realized that her perfect Mr. Right is anything but, and tries to break up. He is a sociopath, drugs and kidnaps her to marry him. Should've been hilarious, but it's 2 hrs of your life that you'll never get back. See more Read all reviews
