Jesse Walsh (Mark Patton) moves with his family into the home of the lone survivor from a series of attacks by dream-stalking monster Freddy Krueger (Robert Englund). There, Jesse is bedeviled by nightmares and inexplicably violent impulses. It turns out Freddy needs a host body to carry out his gruesome vendetta against the youth of Springwood, Ohio. I’ll always be a proponent of practical over CG visual effects whenever possible, and while I wasn’t a fan of Freddy Krueger’s make-up design in this sequel, the rest of the special effects remain top-notch even after almost 26 years now.

Faced with every temptation to simply duplicate the original’s formula with a different group of teenage victims, Freddy’s Revenge tries something new. The results may be uneven, but I will always defend uneven and inventive over smooth but conservative.

A great sequel. I don’t get why people and critics hate it so much because for me it try’s something new and the thought that Freddy now tries to get in the real world trough possessing a body is a really fresh idea. For me it definitely is a really good atmospheric slasher movie and a great sequel.

Now for a sequel that goes for a completely different tone, hate me or not but it fuckin’ works. This film delivers on the dark aggressive Freddy Krueger tone that all us hardcore nightmare fans know and love and is absolute safe to say that this Freddy is easily the scariest in the series. Now I know it breaks the rules that makes A Nightmare on Elm Street an A Nightmare on Elm Street movie, but the characters have great chemistry and are extremely likeable with an absolute great story. The possession subplot I think could use some work and that’s why it doesn’t get full 5 stars. Absolute recommendation for a horror movie pick.

A Nightmare on Elm Street 2: Freddy’s Revenge is a solid sequel that brings Robert Englund back as Freddy Krueger, once again delivering a great performance with iconic lines that help carry the film. However, this entry is a bit more mixed compared to the original. While there is one standout kill that really works, the rest are either just okay or not very memorable. Some scenes also feel weird or out of place, including an unusual shower sequence that doesn’t quite land. Overall, it has its moments and still benefits from Freddy’s presence, but it doesn’t fully capture the magic of the first film. Score: 7/10
