Movie Info
Kat (Marguerite Moreau), a brand new journalism grad, has landed her first big job. It's in Hawaii and she couldn't be more excited to get away from her father (David Rasche) and his expectations. All it requires is an upbeat personality, good instincts and a lot of perseverance. But Kat is finding the work harder than she ever imagined. For one thing, her prey - an elusive big wave surfer named "The Monk" - doesn't intend to be found, and the friendly locals are being somewhat less than

As slight as movies come, yet the sunny scenery and Moreau's effortless charm help make it warmer and more personable than a lot of assembly-line Hollywood product.
Top CriticMs. Moreau is unquestionably the film's star, combining intelligence with sexuality and humor.
This inane debut feature is based around neon-suffused stock surfing footage from a Compaq commercial, so it's a notable accomplishment that Off the Lip succeeds at being laughably highfalutin.
Modestly engaging, but ultimately the fragile little movie wipes out, like a surfer who's misjudged a wave.
The film's biggest flaw is that it never settles on and adheres to the basic rules of any given genre.
The humor is mostly lame
The plot and characters feel like afterthoughts.
Surfer farce that chafes like sand in a wetsuit.
