See more R T @RT32247610 Mar 21 A bone chilling and haunting performance by the late Robin Williams. Sy works as a photo processing technician at the local Savmart and takes pride in his work. Unbeknownst to his patrons he is secretly making copies of a family's photos and pinning them to his apartments wall. He has been developing photos for the same family for eleven years and considers himself as a personal part of their family. He has seen their son grow from a baby to a young teenager in his work. It seems strange but also understandable as Sy is a lonely single man with no friends or family. The twist comes in the third act when Sy discovers a family secret and exposed it for the family to see. Sy's life unravels after he's fired for making extra prints for himself. He takes matters into his own hands and serves his own type of sadistic justice on the family member who he thinks has betrayed his family. I don't want to spoil the ending but you'll understand Sy's motivation. An unlikely, uncharacteristic role. I think it puts an interesting spin on the idea of motives behind crimes as it's done for unselfish reasons, but is still morally wrong from an outside perspective. I found it interesting that Sy makes Will and Maya do sick things, but only photographs the mundane during the crime because according to him no one pays attention to the mundane, but to him it's the most important parts of life. Sy's obsession and loneliness is the driving force behind the plot and is an uncomfortable perspective to view from which makes this movie as compelling as it is. Robin Williams' performance conveyed the emotions behind the storyline perfectly. However, the things that were lacking to me were a few confusing plot details like Sy's nightmare or the almost mediocrity of the resolution with the family. Really gives you that uneasy feeling when watching. Would recommend. See more Arturo P. @himynameisart Dec 5 How does this have a 60 audience score?!? I love this movie, it's eerie and nostalgic. Robin Williams gives a magnificent performance as a reclusive loner who lives a very mediocre life and has a odd fascination about a family he only knows through pictures. It's hard to put this movie into a genre because it isn't a horror movie, even though it's dark, it's also not really a thriller or suspense even though it also does carry some of those characteristics. Watching this movie puts me in like a dark, stormy kind of mood. And the soundtrack is fire too. Worth watching for sure. See more Read all reviews
