A teen gang in rural Oklahoma, the Greasers are perpetually at odds with the Socials, a rival group. When Greasers Ponyboy (C. Thomas Howell) and Johnny (Ralph Macchio) get into a brawl that ends in the death of a Social member, the boys are forced to go into hiding. Soon Ponyboy and Johnny, along with the intense Dallas (Matt Dillon) and their other Greaser buddies, must contend with the consequences of their violent lives. While some Greasers try to achieve redemption, others meet tragic ends.

It is a movie with the heartfelt old-fashioned urgency of a Hollywood film from much further back, with the Brat Pack in this film the equivalent of the Dead End Kids who made Angels With Dirty Faces in the 1930s.

I loved this movie growing up in the 1980's. To see this movie as an adult just wow. The complete novel version is great. The big screen at the movie theater was a awesome experience. Stay Gold!

Watching The Outsiders was possibly the most riveting experience of my life. I truly believe that no other actors, directors or films deserve the screen after The Outsiders was made. Ponyboy, Johnny and Dally have struggles that seem small or nonexistent but the film uses symbolism and extended metaphors to delve deeper into the characters' inner struggles. Ponyboy is a smart kid who believes that his brother doesn't like him, but by the end of the movie, he realizes that all his brother has for him is love. Johnny has problems at home and seems shy and nervous but shows his true bravery by saving Ponyboy. Dally is tough and rude but struggles internally with the loss of those he loves. To all those who complain about how The Outsiders movie doesn't match the book, to you I say, you are missing the point of the film. The Outsiders movie perfectly portrays the novel in a way that I'm sure would make SE Hinton proud. This movie is a MUST - WATCH!!! Props to Hannah B and Kris S!!

genuine and beautiful. this movie is absolutely timeless. excellent directing from Francis Coppola. the wide formatting of the movie makes for some great shots. you can really feel the connection between the kids. the acting is genuine and perfectly emotional. would recommend watching the complete novel version though, it makes for a fuller story. the extra scenes give more context for the whole movie, and really displays the connection between the brothers more. this is one of my favorite movies. its very moving and well thought out. if you haven't seen it please do

Synopsis
