Good conspiracy thriller film that seemed dated even when it came out, with Gene Hackman caught up in a plot on Gorbachev's life.

A compelling and enormously satisfying political thriller, About a career officer sergeant Johnny Gallagher played by Gene Hackman in a marvelous performance who thinks he has been assigned a routine mission to escort a rebellious American soldier played by Tommy Lee Jones in a solid performance from Europe to the United States for a military court martial. Gallagher soon learns that the soldier that he brought from Europe, who has just escape from his charged is man with a different identity, he also discovers a sinister military conspiracy involving a deadly assassination plot against the president of the United States at a historic superpower summit. Gallagher must act now before it is too late. Tension and suspense runs high throughout the film thanks the expert scripting by John Bishop and the brilliant direction by Andrew Davis. Tremendous supporting performances by Joanna Cassidy, John Heard, Dennis Franz, and Pam Grier. One terrific movie! Highly Recommended.

Andrew Davis' first film. The director would go one to direct The Fugitive among others. Here we see just how much talent Davis has. Before he came on board as director the movie had the makings of a forgettable political thriller that world only have a spot at the bottom of Wal-mart's five dollar bin. But what we have is a well done and enjoyable film about the end of the cold war and a fictional plot to kill a american political figure.

an amazing hypothesis on how the Kennedy assasination could be possible (and probably happened) by our own people.

Hackman elevates this rather mindless thriller......about as generic as it goes.

Still good and in many ways relevant political assignation thriller with a great cast. Well-acted, but the best of the genre is still The Manchurian Candidate.

Nifty thriller from the late 80s. A little dated, but it still holds up. Director Andrew Davis used many of the same locations a few years later in "The Fugitive."

Nice little political thriller. Several loop holes in military protocol - but this is a Hollywood movie.

3.5/4

You can see touches of the JFK conspiracy, and some other great fresh touches of it own. It a great thriler, with the always good Gene Hackman giving a knockout performance.

Certainly one the better thrillers I have seen so far. Exciting, suspenseful, thrilling.

Despite some slow pacing this is a really good thriller that has a strong cast, interesting plot, good action, well made score and a tense ending.

Great cast, great director but the pace of this movie is dreadful at times and lacks the punch to wake you up and put the audience back into the story. The action is intense and at times the movie is thrilling. The story is a bit much. Jones is awesome although you don't see much of him. And Hackman brings back his French Connection kind of character.

The action element of the movie is exciting, but I didn't connect with the story quite as much. Nevertheless, this is a decent enough movie to watch for its thrills alone.

5.5/10. Good but way too far fetched thriller. The presence of Gene Hackman and Tommy Lee Jones is a big plus. Fast paced, nicely edited. Too many scenes just don't ring true though and loses steam with the over the top plot.
