After a string of bizarre bank robberies in Southern California, with the crooks donning masks of various former presidents, a federal agent, Johnny Utah (Keanu Reeves), infiltrates the suspected gang. But this is no ordinary group of robbers. They're surfers -- led by the charismatic Bodhi (Patrick Swayze) -- who are addicted to the rush of thievery. The film tries to show that surfers can be feral and violent in their own way, defending their turf, but even this is a different kind of brutality. It is such a strange generic welding, and is part of what has made the film such an enduring cult gem.

It just has an interesting start with the duel between Keanu Reeves and Patrick Swayze, but its police plot often drags within it a series of clichés that take away the intrigue effect from its beach, robbery and surfing agenda. [Full review in Spanish]

74%. 5/15/26. Fun film taking place in LA. Busey's theory is that it's surfers that are the bank robbers so Keanu learns to surf to figure out who the thieves are. He ends up falling for the girl he gets the in with. I like how Bondhi seems likeable at first, even defending Keanu, but then them facing off. The scene where Keanu jumps out of the plane with no shoot is wild. Lot of knitpicks and some poor acting but a fun time. 3.5/5 rewatch

Its tone is unapologetically stylized, and the core experience still hits: it’s fun, fast, and strangely philosophical beneath the surface. It lands in that sweet spot where the movie is undeniably enjoyable, even if not every beat fully sticks the landing. Swayze and Busey steal the show, each bringing a distinct, memorable presence that elevates the entire film. Swayze’s performance in particular stands out easily the second‑best of his career giving his character a magnetic mix of charm, danger, and conviction that anchors the story’s emotional stakes. Busey, meanwhile, injects the film with unpredictable energy that keeps scenes lively and engaging. Their work helps Point Break rise above its genre trappings, turning what could’ve been a standard action flick into something far more iconic.
