Joaquin U @Joaquin1 11h Somewhat entertaining. Not a Sherlock Holmes film; it’s a total transgression of the source material. Another attempt to turn a strong male character into a whiny, frail, doubtful, closeted, pompous drug addict with no self‑control, constantly overshadowed by everyone else. That’s the opposite of the actual character, because… why not? It will be good for someone's agenda. The movie has its share of funny moments, and the locations look visually appealing, but it has a so‑so cast. Poorly scripted and directed, and heavily edited by the studio, supposedly — whether it was once better or worse, we’ll never know. What is left is overlong, not very funny and very slow; what could have been terrific as a study in Holmes' repressed sexuality is just kind of... meh. Director Billy Wilder was certainly not on top of his game for this one.
