Krysztof (Tadeysz Huk) is a 31-year-old star of a small theater group in the Polish countryside, who longs for the bright lights of the big city, and a chance at fame. His wife of 10 years, Anna (Halina Labonarska), an accomplished puppeteer, can no longer handle his self-absorbed ambition, and leaves him. Struggling to find his character amid the chaos of his company's latest production--which include conflicts with the theater's new stage manager, a brash man from the city, as well as his own troupe, who don't want to see him leave--Krzystof must eventually confront his past actions and decide once and for all which is more important: pursuing his dreams, or accepting the love and emotional needs of his long-suffering wife.
