On May 6th, 2009 Maine became the first state in this country to legislatively grant same-sex couples the right to marry. Seven months later, on November 3rd 2009 Maine reversed, becoming the thirty-first state in this country to say "no" to gay and lesbian marriage. We've all heard the arguments many times before. Here, it's between the lines that count.
Straightforward doc offers balanced look at same-sex marriage battle.
Nowadays, when the very notion of impartiality seems quixotic at best, few issue-driven docus even pay lip service to the other side. Fox and Nubile's observational fly-on-the-wall approach proves relatively objective.
There is a lot of reasoned opinion here, and an equal amount that may not be reasoned but is certainly heartfelt.
The film attempts to fairly portray all sides of the debate, following both pro- and antimarriage activists from the first days of the campaign through a suspenseful election night.
Even if you already know where you stand, it's interesting to see how the other half thinks.
