In 1997, a family rounding up a herd of reindeer near the Arctic Circle made a remarkable discovery -- an entire woolly mammoth had been frozen intact in the ice, preserved much as it had been upon its death 23,000 years before. A team of scientists set out to recover the creature's remains, and two years later the beast was moved from its icy grave.
