The idea of Wendy’s daughter taking the lead? Genius—and it totally fits the legacy. The upgraded animation adds some sparkle, and there’s that signature Disney magic sprinkled throughout. But let’s be real: while it soars at times, it also crash-lands into some dull, forgettable moments. The heart’s there, but the pacing drags and it lacks the timeless wonder of the first. See more Ahrianna F @RT83395862 05/02/2025 I remember watching this movie as a kid, when I first saw jonatha Brooke sings I’ll try song from this movie See more Jacob B @RT89309114 04/19/2025 A fairly harmless sequel that somehow got a theatrical release despite visible signs, mainly the incredibly short runtime, that this was meant to be a DTV project. Return to Never Land has nice animation, a sincere attempt to justify its existence instead of being a cynical cash-in and moments of humour and, especially near the end, heart but it's not much more than a palatable time-waster though the good scenes make me hesitate to use such a dismissive term as "forgettable". Issues include: an octopus who serves as a weak replacement for the crocodile, pop songs that feel out of place and immediately date this film to the early 2000's, the film sometimes being obnoxiously noisy, a character arc that, while not poorly handled, had room for improvement seeing how, as even the narration points out, the setting does give Jane a good reason to have the mentality she has making one particular killjoy moment of hers sting all the more and slapstick humour that, while enjoyable, feels too Looney Tunes-ish sometimes. While I don't remember everything from the original film, I do recall that it wasn't necessarily grounded but it did have some rules to its slapstick. I dunno, some of the moments felt like the movie about the fantasy world with a flying, ageless boy and fairies was affecting my willing suspension of disbelief. Overall, a decent sequel but given the choice for a Peter Pan sequel between this film and Hook, I'd take one of Spielberg's more underappreciated films in a heartbeat. P.S. So apparently, that scene where we arrive to Never Land was actually a reference to an idea from the originally film's production. That's a fun fact. And here I thought it was just somebody at Disney trying to appeal to the stoner demographic. See more Read all reviews
