Rumor Has It (2005)

TOMATOMETER

AUDIENCE SCORE

Critic Consensus: This riff on The Graduate has a solid cast, but is too lightweight to fully register.

Movie Info

Sarah Huttinger is in a fog. She's finally agreed to marry her boyfriend Jeff, but isn't at all sure that marriage is what she really wants. Now she's on her way home to attend her sister's wedding, which means spending a lot of time with the tennis-obsessed Pasadena family that she's never felt quite a part of. It isn't until Sarah stumbles into a well-kept family secret that she starts to question her roots and sets off in search of the man who may have the answers she's looking for.

Nothing is remotely believable here.

I suppose it sounded like a good idea at the time.

A scantily clad premise that would at best have been a light-hearted farce goes in search of a heart-tugging denouement and doesn't find it.

A romantic comedy with all the excitement of an AARP magazine cover story and negligible chemistry between Aniston and Costner. Given talk of infertility, let it be said "Rumor" is a series of rocky places in which comedy?s seed can find no purchase.

Lacks depth.

The movie shines when allowing the characters to just exist in their world together, without the forced and tired romantic comedy plot weighing on them.

Audience Reviews for Rumor Has It

½

It's not amazing, but Jennifer Anniston has such a nice presence on screen and it is a good little movie. This is the second time I have seen it, and actually it's better than I remembered. Have upped it half a star as I did really enjoy this.
Good supporting cast with Shirley MacLaine and Mena Suvari also. Subject matter with Kevin Costner's character is a bit ick, but I liked how it all worked out.

An ok film. Jennifer Aniston has always been a favourite of mine.

An average run of the mill rom-com/drama has some funny bits and gets more serious to the end. Starting to like Jennifer Aniston a lot more in films. She was great in friends but has done far too many rom-coms now that they just kinda all blur into one. An ok watch if you're in the mood. Although some strange plot decisions don't add up?!
